More from Sao Paulo and the First Day of the FIFA World Cup

After a fun-filled, soccer-filled, and exhausting two and a half weeks in Brazil for the World Cup group stage matches, I'm back on home soil in the good old US of A.

I'll be recovering with family and friends down in Florida through the July 4th holiday, then heading back to Washington, D.C. for a month before returning to Saudi Arabia for the fall semester of teaching.

My apologies for only one post while down in Brazil. Between watching all of the games, seeing as much of the country as possible, and hit-or-miss wifi, it was nearly impossible to post anything.

But don't worry, I took lots of pictures and saved all of my stories to post retroactively, starting now...

A little reminder of home.
Sao Paulo Cathedral in the city center. Pretty neat-o.

See anyone you recognize?!?!

Going into the FIFA Fan Zone to watch the opening ceremonies and opening match between Brazil and Croatia.
There were lots of interesting people in there...
... and a fair amount of United States fans!
... and people who weren't dressed in soccer gear at all!
The game is about to start and the crowd is getting wild!
The bus stop near my lodging. Simple, yet effective.
